Our Pipe Organ

The organ, Opus 88 designed by Orgues Létourneau Limitée in St. Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada, was installed at St. James’ in September 2003. Opus 88 was designed specifically for the dimensions and acoustics of the chancel and nave of St. James'. The result is a handsome instrument with a tonal palette full of richness and warmth.

The organ is comprised of a total of 1,905 pipes in 34 ranks over 28 individual stops. The pipes are controlled by a two manual and pedal terraced console with combination action and 32 levels of memory, built of Sitka spruce with overlays of polished bone and rosewood for the keys. The mobile console is situated in front of the façade pipes and organ case, which stand majestically in the south chancel. The woodwork for the organ case is stained and carved to integrate with the style of the dark paneling of the chancel and reredos behind the high altar, resulting in a grand and distinguished panorama.

Orgues Létourneau has a reputation for working in a variety of styles while providing instruments of great beauty, growing out of the many years of experience of Ferdnand Letourneau, the company’s sole proprietor and founder, as a voicer for organ builders Casavant Frères Ltée. Since its inception in 1979, Orgues Létourneau has seen remarkable growth and has become internationally known today for excellence in all aspects of pipe organ design, construction and tonal finishing.
