St. James reaches out to the community in numerous ways.

We volunteer at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen by serving lunch every Monday.

We host Harvest, an afternoon outing each Monday for residents of a local group home and other local mentally impaired adults. They gather for fellowship, activities and refreshments with our parishioners at St. James.

We participate in the Mission Mississippi Prayer Breakfast which meets each Tuesday and take our turn as host.

Our church sponsored scout troop meets each Tuesday evening at St. James. We provide monetary assistance to be used for  scouts who otherwise might not have the resources to participate in all activities

We gather Christmas presents for the residents of Whitfield, the state mental facility, and our parishioners purchase clothes and toys for children they adopt from our Salvation Army Angel tree each year.

Our Annual Harvest Bazaar is a major fund raiser and has been for nearly 80 years. Approximately half the profits support scholarships for Washington County mentally disabled youth and adults to attend Camp Bratton Green special camp sessions each year. The remainder of the proceeds go to organizations that help those in need in the area.

Our Outreach stretches beyond the state to our companion diocese of Panama. Pediatric medicines are collected for the Panama medical mission each year. We also participate in the Honduras medical mission by sending supplies and paying the expenses of a doctor, dentist, or veterinarian.

The church provides our rector with a Discretionary Fund that can be used for the assistance of anyone in need.
